Celebrating Mary Brown and Miss Emilie's Garden from Log Cabin Quilter

I am a bit late in the day for sharing my Mary Brown block for October.  I was thinking I had one more day to finish it but realized yesterday that I needed to stitch fast to get it done for the 30th of October.  This was a fussy block to stitch because of all the curvy parts.

And since I am doing a blog post, I will share the next three blocks of "Miss Emilie's Garden" that are completed.

I have had a few requests about how I enlarge the block designs on my computer.  I use a ...

September 30th, 2020 Update from Log Cabin Quilter

Time to share my next block for the "Celebrating Mary Brown" quilt I am working on.  An easier block this month.  The center section was meant to be empty but I added a small piece of toile for a bit of added interest.

I started a new quilt from a pattern by Dawn Heese.  "Peace, Hope and Love".  I am doing it as a block of the month using Dawn's fabrics.  The floral print makes for pretty birds.

I have a finish.  I previously had shared a picture of the quilt top but it has since been quilted and ...

Celebrating Mary Brown and Prairie Flowers from Log Cabin Quilter

August 30th and time for another "Celebrating Mary Brown" update.  I went right down to the wire getting this block made for the 30th of the month.  Still lots of blocks left to stitch.

I also completed "Prairie Flowers".  The pattern I used was by Cheri Saffioti-Payne.  I added to the length and width by adding additional blocks.  I love the prim style shape of the flowers.  The blocks are done with needle turn applique.  I often am asked what method of applique I use.  Needle turn is my main go-to method though I do use others at times.  I ...

Mary Brown Update Plus Finishes from Log Cabin Quilter

Time for July's Mary Brown update.  This time I stitched the left corner section which involves three blocks.  You will also recognize last month's sunflower block as I needed to sew it in to complete the corner.  The left corner section has a red bird.  This one has the blue bird.

Quite some time ago, I stitched sixteen "Simple Life" blocks from a pattern by Norma Whaley.  Instead of the blocks being in a crate in a closet, I decdided it was time to do something with what I had completed.  A quilting friend helped me lay the ...

Celebrating Mary Brown June Block from Log Cabin Quilter

I am late doing my post today.  I had company yesterday and today and forgot to rinse my block, dry and press it.  But better a bit late in the day than not at all.

I like sunflowers and do like them for quilt blocks too.  I don't plan on making this block a second time but if I did, I would make less points on the smaller flower inside yellow parts.  It was too hard to get defined points with such small size to work with.

I added a little bit of fabric to stash from the local ...

Flowers Quilt, Mary Brown Block, and More from Log Cabin Quilter

It is May 30th and time to share another "Celebrating Mary Brown" block.  It is not the block design I should have done but that block did not do well.  It is a feathered star block and is not laying real well nor quite the right size.  So instead, I have done a block with many leaves and will debate with myself about the failed block.  I look forward to seeing what block design my stitching buddies have done this month.

The "Flowers" quilt is completely done.  A lot of quilters have made this same  design in the last couple ...

Celebrating Mary Brown, Libertyville, and Austin Bluebird Updates from Log Cabin Quilter

First up is the block I chose to stitch this month for the "Celebrating Mary Brown" sew-along.  I mark my background for design placement with a blue washout marker so I soak the block after the stitching is done.  This blue chose to run even though it had been pre-washed.  I have had pretty good luck using Spray and Wash and adding it the the washing machine along with other items to take most of the blue coloring out that was where it shouldn't be.

I have all the blocks done that will be on point around a large ...

Pleasant Grove, Mary Brown and More from Log Cabin Quilter

I have some pictures to share with you of some projects that are in the works.  The first picture is a 30 inch square applique block for the "Austin Bluebird Sampler" which is a pattern set by Minnick and Simpson.

Next is a block for the "Celebrating Mary Brown" quilt that myself and some blog friends are all making.  I enjoy selecting the fabrics for the blocks which is probably my favorite part of quilt making.  I haven't counted how many blocks I have completed for the quilt but I know there are still many to go.  A delightful ...

February Update - Mary Brown and More from Log Cabin Quilter

The end of February and time for a "Celebrating Mary Brown" update.  A lot going on in this block.  Three birds and the squirrel.  I enjoyed selecting fabrics for the birds.

A finished quilt made from a Jo Morton pattern.  The top was made in 2019 so not a long held unfinished project.  The name of the quilt pattern is "Parkersburg" and found in the book done with Kim Diehl called "Simple Friendships".  The blocks were enlarged a bit for a more useable quilt size.

The second quilt finish is "Home to  American Quiltmakers".  The pattern is by Lori Smith ...

"Celebrating Mary Brown" January Finishes from Log Cabin Quilter

I stitched two Mary Brown blocks in January instead of just one.  I got on a roll and decided the first one went faster than I thought it would and I was in the mood for a second block.

I added a fabric center to the block above although the pattern sample block had a plain background center showing.  I thought it added a bit more interest to the block.

The second block is done all in needleturn applique although the instructions were to piece the checked fabric section and the sharp points.

I have not been adding links to ...

December "Mary Brown" Update from Log Cabin Quilter

I have had my "Celebrating Mary Brown" block done but had not taken a picture of it and onto a blog post.  In this block, I like the stripe flower best of any of them.

I am working on a Jan Patek design along with a quilting friend (non-blogger).  The pattern is "Pleasant Grove Primer".  I have some parts done and am sharing a picture but this is not the actual layout of the blocks.

Look for more Jan Patek quilts from me in 2020.

Below are some of the applique blocks from the "Halloween Sampler" by Fig Tree that ...

Celebrating Mary Brown November Block and December's Buhl Quilt Section from Log Cabin Quilter

The 30th of November about passed me by.  I just checked the calendar to see when it was and discovered it is today with about 2 1/2 hours left of it.  Here is the block I chose to do this month.  It has been a bit difficult to say what block each of us would work on in a particular month as the corners of the quilt really encompass three blocks.  And the middle of the quilt has larger blocks than the surrounding ones.  So, I decided that each of us would work on whatever block suited their fancy ...

Parkersburg Quilt and Celebrating Mary Brown Update from Log Cabin Quilter

A bird blck for my "Celebrating Mary Brown" quilt.  Last month I shared a picture of the upper left corner section.  The bird block is the next block in the top row.  I am not fond of the leaf right behind the bird wing but that is the pattern design. Some of the other sew-along participants will be sharing their blocks.  Some will get going when they have recuperated from surgery or the need to fabric shop first.

I completed the "Parkersburg" quilt top made from a pattern by Jo Morton.  My friend Jean also made one.  We decided to ...
